Hey there, I'm back to talk to you about this article I read from in the world news called Girl Rising and how I was able to relate it to the topic of otherness that we talked about in my World Literature class.
This article is an overview of the film "Girl Rising" which is about nine different girls from all over the world and what they have gone through just to get an education, which is some thing that people in the United States may not take for granted. In the article it talks about how girls in different parts of the world don't really have the right to chose what they get to do with their life, and this film is some girls who are going against their traditions to do something they feel they should have the right to do.
When it comes to World Literature we talked about the topic of otherness while we were reading the book Notre-Dome De Paris. In the context of that story it was to me how people felt awkward around Quasimodo due to his deformities. When it comes to the news article Girl Rising you could take the topic of otherness and say something like these girls feel different when it comes to their education. These girls may feel the sense of otherness because they may feel out casted because they do not have the same education as some people. The otherness can also come in if you talk about how these girls are standing up for what they believe in when it may be frowned upon in their country. People may see them as trouble makers and want nothing to do with them which in return can make the girls feel like they are alone in the fight they are fighting when in reality they are not.
To me otherness plays a big role in this article for the fact that these girls are standing up for what they believe is their right to a good education no matter what their culture may be telling them and that is what makes them different from others, but it also makes them unique in the fight for the right to their well deserved education.
