The Seventh Seal

Hello again. I'm back to talk to you abut my experience in watching a foreign film. The film I chose to watch was called The Seventh Seal which took place in Sweden in the 1300's.  The overall story is about a knight and his squire coming back from the Crusades and returning to Sweden to find it being effected by the Black plague. The film is the knights journey and how he is trying to find out if there is a God and where people go when they die. One thing I found interesting about this film is that the knight plays a game of chess with the grim reaper. This was one thing that confused me, because I was not quite sure what that was suppose to symbolize.

Before I started watching this film I was not sure if I was going to like this experience due to the fact that I would have to read the subtitles and try and watch the movie to try and follow along with what was going on. After watching the film it was not as hard as I thought it would be to follow along, even though I didn't always know what exactly was going on with in the story line.

As I was watching the film the one thing that I found my self thinking about a lot was how cruel people really are to each other. There were many scenes in the film showing people breaking into others houses and taking anything that they found to be worth some money. How can people be so rude as to go into someone's home and take things that don't belong to them. Another thing that I was thinking about was how far groups of people would walk and the work they would put in to making a new village to isolate themselves from the plague in hopes of living through it and going on with their every day lives.

Another thing that I was thinking about a lot during this film was what it would be like to live in this time period and go through some of the horrible things these people had to go through. I have been very sick before but I know it is nothing like having this disease and knowing that you are going to die. I really have know idea what it would feel like to have sores all over my body and knowing in little time it will take my life. I think that would be a horrible way to go.

After watching this film it gave me a sense of what the people during this time felt like and what they would do to try and escape the plague, when in fact there was truly no way to escape. It also gave me a sense in how it would feel to live knowing that at any time you could be exposed and in little time be died or dying.
